Please join us for the third Geology Department Alumni Reunion and Symposium!

We are happy to invite you to our third Geology Department Alumni Reunion and Symposium in September.  We have many things to celebrate.  For their 25th reunion, the class of 1981 donated a Pterosaur for the Great Hall in the science center.  This will be our first chance to properly thank Jamie Small and the rest of his class for their efforts.  Also, the Geology Department faculty has grown by one and this gathering will be a great chance for you to meet Dr. Jeffrey Rahl, who joined the department this past fall.  Jeff is teaching Earth Materials I and Tectonics and does research in tectonics using thermochronology and metamorphic petrology.

Our gathering will take place here in the department from September 20-23, 2007. Once you get to W&L, we’ll cover food and transportation (for the field trip and hotel shuttles).  See below for reserved lodging and a link to find other accomodations in the area.   Starving graduate students take note! Contact David Harbor about a travel stipend to help you attend the event.

Please respond by filling in the response form in the link below.  We need to know if you can come and if you wish to participate in the symposium day. We need your input to have a successful symposium, so be thinking of how you can participate by giving a talk, bringing a poster (we can print it for you too), or participating in a panel discussion. You are of course welcome to just come and enjoy the company of your fellow W&L Geology graduates in the shadow of the Blue Ridge. We have done a pretty good job finding most of our alums, but you might mention this event to your classmates to make sure the word gets around.  We don’t want to miss anyone. We are excited about bringing our alumni back to W&L and hope you’re equally excited about the possibility of coming back.
