Making your own algorithms

Don't start ERMapper yet. The first step is to copy the necessary files to a "satellite dataset" folder in your Q:/geolgis/your_name directory. For any dataset that will involve changes ( most analyses will require you to change the .ers file), you must copy both the data and the .ers file of the same name, for example.

Begin ER Mapper and click on the left button in the top row of  the toolbar.  This will open a blank Pseudocolor Algorithm.. Open the Algorithm (, 2nd row of icons "view the algorithm" below).

Notice that this window has three toolbar rows, not the default two.  Open the "remote sensing" toolbar from the toolbars Menu and click on the "TM" wizard.Once you have found the dataset and clicked on the OK in the Batch Engine request box. The raster image comes up.

Now save the save the algorithm as "va.practice.alg (it must end with .alg). ER Mapper will not ask you if you want to save an algorithm if you quit without doing so. You must save the algorithm as you work on it. To save your new algorithm click on the image of the disk in the top row. Make sure that you put it in your home directory under dataset
/usr/people/your_name/dataset/va.practice.alg

First zoom in on a smaller portion of the image by clicking and dragging. Now view the algorithm by clicking the button.

Notice that you're in the "color mode" called Pseudocolor." Notice also that the type of layer below is called "Pseudo."
