Research
I continue to work in the general area of "soft rock" geology.  I'm especially interested in the relationship between sedimentation and tectonics, and in deciphering what the sedimentary rock record can tell us about the origin and evolution of mobile belts.  I've invested considerable time and energy studying the late Precambrian-Early Paleozoic sequences throughout the Appalachians, and am presently working on contemporaneous clastic sedimentary rocks in Utah and Montana.  I continue my interest in reinterpreting classical collisional belts like the Appalachians and French-Italian Alps in terms of plate tectonic models and suspect terrance thory.
