The above image is an aerial photograph of the Blue Ridge Front south east of Buena Vista, Virginia which has been drapped over a triangular irregular network to examine the terrain in three dimensions.  The labeled features known as hogbacks are the triangular shapes formed by the intersection of the bedrock and incised stream valleys.  As the streams incise at semi-regular intervals along the mountain front triangular shapes are created.
